Parts of Melbourne battered by freak hailstorm


Elements of Melbourne have been battered by a freak hail storm on Saturday afternoon.

Town’s northern suburbs bore the brunt with roads blanketed in white.

Some drivers have been caught out as they did not have time to get their vehicles beneath cowl.

The thick hail lined automobile windscreens parked within the streets of Thornbury and Craigieburn.

Residents have taken to social media to share movies and pictures of the climate occasion.

Some remarked on Twitter in regards to the dimension of the hail, which was described as “pebble ice sized” and “a few centimetre-wide”.

The wild climate is being brought on by a low strain system.

The Bureau of Meteorology stated the small hail was from a number of storm cells.

Showers and storms are anticipated to proceed on Saturday night in southern components of the state.
